Reading the site
You can read every page of Seymour Meat without an account. We ask for nothing to do it.
If you create an account
An account stores your email address; a salted hash of your password, never the password itself; when you created the account, confirmed your email and last signed in; the cuts you choose to follow; whether you buy or sell beef; and whether you want the weekly brief by email. Nothing else.
We also keep a log of the emails we send you: which kind, when, and for the weekly brief, which week. It keeps any address from getting more than a few account emails in an hour, and anyone from getting the same week's brief twice.
The weekly brief by email
The weekly brief is switched on when you create an account, and it is sent only after you confirm your email. Each issue is built for you from the cuts you follow, the same numbers the site shows. Every issue carries our postal address.
To stop it, use the unsubscribe link at the foot of any issue. It works without signing in, and your mail app's own unsubscribe button uses it too. You can also switch it off on your account page, or reply to any issue with "unsubscribe". Unsubscribing keeps your account and records when you unsubscribed; you can turn the brief back on at any time.
If you write to us
The contact form stores your name, your email address, your message, when you sent it, and a hashed form of your IP address. The hash is keyed, so it cannot be turned back into the address; it only lets us tell repeated messages from one network apart. The message is forwarded to our inbox so we can reply, and it is kept as correspondence, as a letter would be. If you email hello@seymourmeat.com instead, we keep that email like any other correspondence.
Account emails, such as the link that confirms your address or resets your password, and the weekly brief are sent through our email provider, Resend. It receives your address and the message in order to deliver it. It also carries contact-form messages to our inbox.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, on your account page. That deletes the account and its email log at once. Messages you sent us are kept, because they are correspondence with us rather than part of the account. If you can't sign in, write to hello@seymourmeat.com from the address you signed up with and we will delete it for you.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard server request logs, as every web host does: the page requested, the time, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. We use them only to keep the site running and to diagnose faults. The sign-up form on the home page sends the address you type as part of the page address, so an address entered there can appear in those logs.
Fonts
The site's typefaces are served from our own server, like the rest of the page. No font or other file is fetched from a third party when a page loads.
Cookies
The site sets one strictly necessary session cookie, and only when you open a sign-in, sign-up or contact form or sign in. It keeps you signed in and protects those forms from forgery. Signing out clears it.
The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and runs no analytics or third-party advertising scripts.
